Potions are an essential part of all Factions-type servers (And all PvP servers in general). You can make different potions ranging from strength potions that help you win battles against other players and mobs, or even make jump boost potions that let you jump higher.
In this tutorial, we will go over how to create each potion and its recipe.
Required Equipment, Modifiers, Ingredients, and Materials
For brewing potions, you will need some equipment and a few materials to start the brewing. This equipment and materials include:
Equipment
- Brewing Stand: Used to make the potions.
- Cauldron: Used to hold a bucket of water and fill up to at least 3 glass bottles.
- Blaze Powder: Needed to fuel the brewing stand.
- Glass Bottle: Container of every potion.
- Water Bottle: The starting base for every potion.
- Water (Bucket): Used to fill an infinite number of glass bottles.
Modifiers
- Nether Wart: Allows creation of more complex potions.
- Redstone Dust: Extends the duration of a potion.
- Glowstone Dust: Enhances the level of a potion.
- Fermented Spider Eye: Corrupts the potion effect.
- Gunpowder: Turns the potion into a splash potion.
- Dragon’s Breath: Turns a splash potion into a lingering potion.
Ingredients
- Sugar: Used to create Speed potions.
- Rabbit’s Foot: Used to create Jump Boost potions.
- Glistering Melon Slice: Used to create Instant Health potions.
- Spider Eye: Used to create Poison potions.
- Pufferfish: Used to create Water Breathing potions.
- Magma Cream: Used to create Fire Resistance potions.
- Blaze Powder: Used to create Strength potions.
- Ghast Tear: Used to create Regeneration potions.
- Turtle Shell: Used to create Slowness & Resistance potions.
- Phantom Membrane: Used to create Slow Falling potions.
How to Create Each Potion
Below, we will take you through the steps of how to create each potion available in Minecraft. Make sure you have gathered all the necessary ingredients, and follow the steps carefully, to create your potion correctly.
Awkward Potion
This potion is the basis of all other potions It is needed to create every other potion, so start here:
- Make sure you have at least 1 water bottle with no effects applied and at least 1 nether wart.
- Put the water bottle in the brewing stand with the nether wart.
- After it is done brewing, pick up the awkward potion and place it in your inventory.
Potion of Healing
This potion heals your health when you are low on hearts. An Instant Health potion will heal 2 hearts, while an Instant Health II potion will heal 4 hearts.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 glistering melon slice, and if you’d like to enhance it, 1 glowstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the glistering melon slice.
- After it is done brewing, you should have an instant health potion.
- If you wish to upgrade it to Instant Health II, you may put your glowstone dust with the instant health potion back into the brewing stand.
Potion of Fire Resistance
This potion will make you immune to damage from fire, lava, magma blocks, campfires, and attacks from blazes and ghasts.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 magma cream, and if you’d like to extend it, 1 Redstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the magma cream.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a fire-resistance potion.
- If you wish to obtain a fire-resistance potion that lasts longer, you may put in that Redstone dust and the fire-resistance potion back into the brewing stand.
Potion of Regeneration
This potion restores health every 2.5 seconds and when enhanced, it will restore your health every 1.2 seconds for a certain amount of time.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 ghast tear, and if you’d like to extend or enhance it, then you will need at least 1 Redstone dust or 1 glowstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the ghast tear.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a regeneration potion.
- If you wish to have a regeneration potion that lasts longer you may place that Redstone dust with the regeneration potion that you made back into the brewing stand. To enhance it, you will need to put 1 glowstone dust along with it.
Potion of Strength
This potion will increase the strength of your melee attack damage by 2 hearts and, if enhanced, it will increase it by 3 hearts.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 blaze powder and, if you’d like to extend or enhance it, then you will need at least 1 Redstone dust or 1 glowstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the blaze powder.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a strength potion.
- If you wish to have a strength potion that lasts longer, you may put the Redstone dust and the strength potion back into the brewing stand, and to enhance it (so that it makes you even stronger), you will need to put glowstone dust along with it.
Potion of Swiftness
This potion will increase your movement speed by 20%. In its enhanced form, it’ll speed you up by 40%.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 sugar and, if you’d like to extend or enhance it, then you will need at least 1 Redstone dust or 1 glowstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the sugar.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a swiftness potion.
- If you wish to have a swiftness potion that lasts longer, you may put the Redstone dust and the swiftness potion back into the brewing stand. To enhance it (so that it makes you walk even faster), you will need to put glowstone dust along with it.
Potion of Night Vision
This potion will hugely improve visibility and vision depth, including underwater areas.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 golden carrot, and if you’d like to extend it, 1 Redstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the golden carrot.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a night vision potion.
- If you wish for your potion to last longer, you may put it back into the brewing stand along with Redstone dust.
Potion of Invisibility
This potion will make you invisible (excluding any wielded items and equipped armor).
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 fermented spider eye, and if you’d like to extend it, 1 Redstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the fermented spider eye.
- After it is done brewing, you should have an invisibility potion.
- If you wish to have an invisibility potion that lasts longer, you may put that Redstone dust and the invisibility potion that you made back into the brewing stand.
Potion of Water Breathing
This potion prevents you from drowning in water.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, at least 1 pufferfish, and if you’d like to extend it, 1 Redstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the pufferfish.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a water-breathing potion.
- If you wish to have a water-breathing potion that lasts longer, you may put that Redstone dust and the water-breathing potion that you made back into the brewing stand.
Potion of Leaping
This potion will increase jump height by ½ block, and when enhanced, 1¼ blocks.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 rabbit foot, and if you’d like to extend or enhance it, 1 Redstone dust or 1 glowstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the rabbit foot.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a leaping potion.
- If you wish to have a leaping potion that lasts longer, you may put the Redstone dust and the leaping potion back into the brewing stand. To enhance it (so you can jump even higher), you will need to put glowstone dust along with it.
Potion of Slow Falling
This potion prevents you from taking fall damage and slows down your fall rate.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 phantom membrane, and if you’d like to extend it, 1 Redstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the phantom membrane.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a slow-falling potion.
- If you wish to have a slow-falling potion that lasts longer, you may put it back in the brewing stand with Redstone dust.
Potion of Poison
This potion will cause you to take damage once every 1.25 seconds. and if enhanced, once every 0.4 seconds.
- Make sure you have at least 1 awkward potion, 1 spider eye, and if you’d like to extend or enhance it, 1 Redstone dust or 1 glowstone dust.
- Put the awkward potion in the brewing stand with the spider eye.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a poison potion.
- If you wish to have a poison potion that lasts longer, you may put it back in the brewing stand with Redstone dust. To enhance it, you will need to put glowstone dust with it.
Potion of Weakness
This potion will cause your melee to be reduced by 2 hearts.
- Make sure you have at least 1 water bottle, at least 1 fermented spider eye, and if you’d like to extend it, 1 Redstone dust.
- Put the water bottle in the brewing stand with the fermented spider eye.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a weakness potion.
- If you wish to have a weakness potion that lasts longer, you may put in that Redstone dust along with the weakness potion that you made before back into the brewing stand.
Potion of Harming
This potion will cause you to take damage. It will cause you to take 3 hearts of damage, and if enhanced to Instant Damage II, it will cause you to take 6 hearts of damage.
- Make sure you have at least 1 potion of poison, 1 fermented spider eye, and if you’d like to enhance it, 1 glowstone dust.
- Put the potion of poison in the brewing stand with the fermented spider eye.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a potion of harming.
- If you wish to have instant damage II, you may put in that glowstone dust with the instant damage potion that you made before back into the brewing stand.
Potion of Slowness
This potion will slow you down to 85% speed, and if enhanced, it’ll slow you down to 40% speed.
- Make sure you have at least 1 potion of swiftness, 1 fermented spider eye, and if you’d like to extend or enhance it, 1 Redstone dust or 1 glowstone dust.
- Put the potion of swiftness in the brewing stand along with the fermented spider eye.
- After it is done brewing, you should have a potion of slowness.
- If you wish to have a potion of slowness that lasts longer or makes you even slower, you may put your potion back into the brewing stand along with 1 Redstone dust (Longer duration) or 1 glowstone dust (Slower speed).
